The Door of the Restrained

Description

The Doors of the Restrained are odd beings whose origins are unknown. They are found scattered across The Cursed Isle, blocking progress to those who dare travel there. They are fully chained to doors, creating immovable barriers. The web of chains prevent anyone from trying to crawl through, and those small enough will find the metal strands close down on them when they try. Damage and violence does not affect them, as their bodies just seem to heal and the metal does not give. The only way for one to get past one is to find the key that fits into its chest lock. When the correct key is plunged into their lock and twisted, the being breaks free from its chains and collapses to the ground as if it had been stabbed. The body quickly disintegrates, leaving an unblocked door. Once a Door is unlocked, it remains that way, with the being never coming back.

There has been confusion on who these beings were and their origins. Some suggest that they represent those who tried to peacefully stop the inmate rebellion and are thus reborn as obstacles to keep the maddened creatures locked away. Along those lines, there are those who believe that they were the pure souls who have placed themselves in the way of those who would unleash a horrible abomination or unspeakable evil. Another theory is that they were constructed by the doctors in order to seal away powerful foes and keep themselves safe from monsters that roam the halls.

There is a rumor about one being that did not believe in its duty as a Restrained, and thus suffers in its locked torment. Those who unlock him from his door may have unleashed a foe that does not fall to the blade of the key, and wishes vengeance on those who sealed him away.
